On-Stage Altercation Between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro at Jane’s Addiction Concert
An unexpected altercation took place during Jane’s Addiction’s Boston show on Friday night, when frontman Perry Farrell got into a confrontation with guitarist Dave Navarro, abruptly cutting the concert short.
The incident unfolded while the band was performing “Ocean Size” at the Leader Bank Pavilion. Farrell, visibly agitated, began shouting obscenities at the audience, including “f–k you,” before turning his anger toward Navarro.
Farrell aggressively shoved his shoulder into the unsuspecting guitarist, as captured in a video shared online.
Navarro, maintaining composure, tried to hold Farrell back by extending his arm, but Farrell responded by attempting to land a few elbow jabs at him.
Several crew members, along with bassist Eric Avery, quickly stepped in to break up the escalating conflict, with some heard telling Farrell to stop.
As the stage lights dimmed, Farrell was escorted off, though not without more punches being thrown in the process.
Despite the tension, Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins went to the front of the stage, offering the audience a warm goodbye.
They raised their hands in a gesture of peace and gratitude, earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
Brian MacKenzie, a photographer covering the event, later posted on social media that many in the crowd believed the outburst was part of a scripted act between the band-mates.
He added that Farrell had been drinking a large bottle of wine throughout the evening, and Navarro and Avery seemed more irritable than usual.
One fan, shared on X (formerly Twitter), describing the crowd’s mixed reactions: “Half the audience was upset the show ended early, while others were excited thinking this might be the last-ever Jane’s Addiction performance.”

As of Saturday morning, neither Farrell nor Navarro had commented publicly on the incident. Jane’s Addiction, currently on a North American tour, had encountered a few recent challenges.
Earlier in the week, during a performance in New York City, Farrell admitted to the crowd that his voice wasn’t in good shape. “I have to be honest, something’s wrong with my voice. I can’t hit the notes,” he reportedly said.
Following that show, bassist Eric Avery took to Instagram to address fans, expressing hope for a better performance the next night. “Can’t wait to get another shot at this amazing rooftop venue. I’m optimistic things will go smoother,” he wrote.
The band’s next scheduled concert is on September 15 at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Jane’s Addiction, a Grammy-nominated band, reunited with its original lineup for the 2024 tour after bassist Eric Avery rejoined in 2022. Navarro had missed out on tours in 2022 and 2023 due to complications from long COVID.
During his absence, the band brought in guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen from Queens of the Stone Age and Josh Klinghoffer, formerly of Red-Hot Chili Peppers, to fill Navarro’s role.
In a 2022 interview, Farrell expressed his regret over Navarro’s absence but remained focused on delivering exciting performances.
“I wish Dave could be here, but my passion is bringing entertainment and art to the world. Whatever it takes to amaze the audience, I’m committed to it.”
Speaking about Navarro’s temporary replacements, Farrell said the band reached out to musicians they respected, with Van Leeuwen emerging as the ideal choice.
“It’s tough finding someone to step into Dave Navarro’s shoes, but Troy fit the role perfectly,” Farrell explained.
As the tour progresses, fans are left wondering how this latest confrontation will affect the band’s remaining performances.
